There is a time and a place for all 3 in CrossFit.  Not every day is about competing and this is coming from someone with one of the most competitive mindsets ever.  But honestly think about it, how can you continue to be competitive if you don’t practice the movements you aren’t so good at and train your body or mind to do things that you couldn’t do before?

A well-rounded athlete will practice, they will train and they will compete on a regular basis.  This athlete will practice movements and skills during a workout even if it means that they won’t be able to click the RX button that day.  This athlete will train their body and mind to obtain a higher skill level or a higher threshold even if it means they won’t be at the top of the leaderboard that day.  This athlete will compete everyday but mostly against their old self because after all isn’t the “old you” the one you are trying to be better than?

Keep these things in mind the next time you're in the gym.  What should your focus for the day be?  Practice?  Training?  Or Competing?
